Gerry, when you tried the vacuum pods, did they hold vacuum? Or is the problem that you can't get the vacuum pod to engage the lock, and the lock won't turn to use the key method?

The previous owner of my car had a vacuum failure, and he had only a valet key. He got the trunk open by cutting a tab of metal behind the license plate and bending it open, to access the lock rod and manually move it into position so the release button would work. He bent the tab back and put some tape over it to seal the opening, and the license plate covers the wound. This is a rusty old car, though. If yours has a good body you might want to get the lock drilled instead.
