I will have to put in my 2 cents though it is not worth much. I get to assist the local medical with care of the USCG servicemen and women. I can honestly say that they seem to get some pretty bright recruits. I have yet to think one of them was retarded. I have seen some who I can say were of average intelligence and maybe a little lower but, certainly not retarded. My overall impression of them is that they are pretty clean cut good kids and a cut above of the general public. I may be wrong but it seems that the other branches of the services may not get as good recruits as does the USCG (ie army). My vote-good servicemen and women, not welfare. No offense to anyone intended.
