The 17mm nut on the top alternator bolt is missing altogether.
I checked my records, and find that there was a spate of spontaneous belt loosening three years ago, no mention of boltery. From this, and the state of the exposed end of the bolt, I suspect that the nut has been missing a _long_ time, perhaps since I got the car.
