Kind of odd that D-B missed the chance to field a wagon in the compact-luxury segment in the '80s. BMW made an E30 chassis 3-series wagon that they sold everywhere but the USA, although a few have gotten here anyway: http://bringatrailer.com/2011/05/18/somehow-in-socal-1991-bmw-e30-touring/ VWAG had the second-generation Passat (Quantum in the USA), which was kind of in-between the 201 and 124. Maybe the closest equivalent thing to a 201 wagon you could get here was the 5-door Saab 900.
