Well that's great that you're open minded. I'm not when it comes to these
things. A serious manufacturer makes it's own engines. Mercedes has gone down a
declining path of no return. It's really too bad.

Yes, I'm ok with it, because I understand what the deal means.

Ok. But still by a Mercedes factory. Nissan engines in a Mercedes is
unacceptable. Don't tell me you're OK with it?

Yep, Mercedes made in china!!!

The reality is, this is how modern car companies stay competitive. If
Daimler didn't do things like this, we'd see them on a decline. Instead,
China is replacing the US for the largest market for Mercedes. They even
have special models not available anywhere else, like a long wheel base E
class. Thats good business, and good car building.

Don't like it? Too bad... time to wake up and realize what the global
economy means to today's automotive industry. It doesn't mean they're
making inferior products, it means they're smart enough to build good
products in a profitable way that people will buy. And the reality is that
today's Mercedes really are excellent cars, both in design and production
quality.

But Wroger said it best... are you really in the market for a $40-150k car?
Put yourself in the shoes of someone who has $60k to spend on a car (lots
of folks do), and go test driving. Do they all look like toyotas or
whatever? Well, maybe... they all look like modern cars, thats for sure.
Thats because they're modern cars. Do they all have the technology,
safety, and feel of a Toyota? Certainly not. A Mercedes is still a
Mercedes, but the values of the brand are not the same as they were in the
70s when the W123 was designed. If they were, they'd have gone out of
business a long time ago.

I'm not thrilled about it but at least it is being built by a Mercedes
Benz factory, not a Nissan factory. And BTW all the vehicles currently
coming out of the Alabama plant have their drivetrains built in Germany and
not in the US by a Japcrap plant. That makes a huge difference. I was never
thrilled about the Alabama plant to begin with-look at the terrible track
record of the first gen M class. That being said, I don't have any real
problem with American cars but I really dislike the Asian ones.

So how do you feel about the entire C class vehicle being made in
Alabama? No Germans are building the cars, and no Japanese will be be
building the engines. Just good-ol Tennessee and Alabama boys.

Yes. It REALLY bothers me. I don't care if Mercedes designs it. There
is a very good chance that there will be many shared parts between the
engines made for Nissan and those made for mercedes. Bottom line is
that it's a Nissan made engine and it's going into a Mercedes -
utterly disgusting. Carl and Gottlieb must be turning in their
graves. I will seriously consider boycotting modern Mercedes cars from
now on. I'll stick to my classics and for newer cars I'll buy Beemers,
Audi's or anything else, japcrap excluded of course.
