Err.  I'm pretty sure Max and Loren were talking about getting
the ball joint in and out of the steering knuckle, not
separating the taper joint on the ball joint from the lower
control arm.

That is what you are describing, right?  A pickle forks is an
option for getting the ball joint separated from the control
arm.  The Harbor Freight press is for the non-taper press fit of
the ball joint body into the assembly that has the wheel hub on
it.
