Nope, never.

My '85 190D had a fault somewhere that I never determined, when the engine 
wasn't running the temp gauge would jump around but once running it was steady. 
Strange but not too annoying.

Could be a bad instrument cluster ground. Does the temp gauge fluctuate when 
you use turn signals or turn on the headlights?
