You missed my original message, thermostat was replaced at the beginning of the 
odyssey, made no difference.

Also while the temp gauge is up around 100C the actual temp at the outlet (near 
the thermostat) is more like 87C. IR reading at the temp sender is more like 
85C.

Just got a thought on this. If the thermostat is old then it 
might be an idea to change it. Sounds like it might be sticking 
till it gets exercised a bit. May decide to stay closed soon.
