I am budget conscience. I just do not see dropping $500 each for rubber. The tax on owners of old cars is wrong. We should be allowed access to consumables at a reasonable price. There is no need for dropping monster cash to get simple enough tires, when the ricer boys are tossing five figures to put rubber bands on trash can lid size rims. Classic center Tom tells me to purchase his over priced rims so that I can use 15" tires. If I wanted to make the car into a hoopty, I could just hit any low rent wheel shop. Might as well get some LEDs for under the body, maybe a banging stereo with DVD player pop up screen and some 4500 watt bass boosters. Swap out the muffler for a coffee can system and some Thrush glaspacks. Then change the door hinges to Lambos, find a HID kit, maybe bull bars, and cut the springs to lower it.

Clay,
Tires are available that meet your needs. You're just unwilling to pay for
them!

Jaime

PS - The Ferrari guys do pay for them.

I am not enamored of the classic center. They are elitist and do not
support the owners of the models that made the company money. If you
happen to share a part with a more elitist vehicle, you can pay multiples
of the value of your car to acquire it. Poop! We end up at the PnP to
source our parts and keep the cars on the road, providing unremunerated
marketing to the marque, so they can pillage our bank accounts when we need
a part. Poop! Fie on them!

I want my dang tires. Why am I not allowed to have access to tires that
meet the design specifications for my car? Mercedes should endorse and
procure a tire that meets the needs and design requirements of the cars
they built. I am certain there would be ample market for a V rated 14 inch
tire at a reasonable price. The drivers of the larger sedans as well as
sport coupes of the 1970's and early 1980's would buy out any production
run of said tires. We would also have a smaller market demand from the
Ferrari owners, since they too are in need of high speed rubber.

I just received the February 2013: Mercedes-Benz Classic Center News
email.

One item in it says,

Good news for all owners of Mercedes-Benz classics from the 1950s
and early 1960s: as of now, the Mercedes-Benz Classic Center is
offering the type ATE T50 and T50/12 brake boosters - for historical Mercedes-Benz cars such as the 190 SL (W121), the 300 SL (W198), the
300 Sc (W188) and the Ponton models - at a significantly reduced
price! Few drivers realize that their brake boosters are no longer
functioning properly because they get used to the continuously
rising pedal pressure required and the longer stopping distances.
Don't hesitate and take a chance on the functionality of your brakes
when you need them the most. Order your new brake booster today for
   $2,220.00 (was $3,470.00)!

Contact us at 1-866-622-5277 (toll-free) or email
   classicpa...@mbusa.com.

Yes, it's 36% off, but I still choke at $2,220.00 for a brake booster!
