On my old 123, the problem turned out to be a gear that slipped at the
shaft.  A quick fix with either super glue or shoe goo (don't recall which).

I think somewhere in some archives  Curt posted a detailed-maybe visual- of
how to fix 123 odometers.The one on my 79 never worked and I was too lazy
to attempt it.
