For those who haven't had the "privilege" of working under the instrument panel in general aviation aircraft, a Cessna 182 has the wings overhead, so the floor is flat. Take out the seat and there is room to get under and behind. A Piper Cherokee is a low wing aircraft, so the wing struts occupy a large tunnel athwart the cabin so the floor is NOT flat.
