Same here - twice each on 3 different MB's (81 300D, 91 350SDL, 87 300D).

In my experience, more oil is removed by vacuum via the dipstick tube. OM606, OM603, OM617.

Sucked out the oil, then removed the drain plug; not a drop came out.
