Hello again,
I brought the car into an independent shop I use who took the
headliner out and examined the area. He called me to say it is
leaking from a seal which connects the sunroof frame to the vehicle.
He went to a local Mercedes Benz dealer to purchase a seal and was
told that the seal is a part of the entire assembly and not sold
separately!!!!
The entire sunroof frame has to be replaced at a parts only cost of
$1,800. The independent shop suggested that he can remove the
frame, clean off the area and reseal it with a sealer similar to
that used on a windshield. Does that make any sense to you guys?
Any suggestions on what type of sealer would work best?
Is the fix worth doing or should I consider replacing the frame entirely?
I called Mercedes Benz of America in New Jersey and they confirmed
that the seal is not sold separately.
Bob
This $1800 seal is probably just a piece of tubing. I'd have the
shop reseal it with whatever is appropriate. tubing, windshield seal
or silicone seal. I'd most likely reach for silicone seal.
