Chris, we own a 1985 300CD and once you've replaced the front end (ball joints, control arms, motor mounts, etc.) hardware, all 4 shocks, water pump, and rear window regulator(s) it's all downhill from there!. It's proven very dependable and a nice car to drive...The best thing about a 300CD vs. an SLC is that the drive train is virtually bulletproof, assuming suitably "religious" maintenance. I spent $2300 fixing the SLC transmission only to need a valve job about 5K miles later (car's mileage was around 190K at the time). I was not unhappy when my son totaled that car! (he wasn't hurt, fortunately)
