Hmm, that was supposed to be NOLA mayor not May...
All of coastal MS was devastated. Bay St. Louis, Pass Christian, Long Beach,
Gulfport, Biloxi, Ocean Springs all were hit hard. Bay, Pass and Biloxi got
it the worst. Most of the beachfront for 1/2 mile north of Hwy 90 were wiped
out. The next half mile was heavily damaged. In many cases that was up to the
railroad. From the railroad to I-10 was tree damage, most roofs gone, but
mostly structurally intact. N of I-10 was wind, tree and flooding damage.
#1 Daughter's house survived, but it is back about a mile and a few feet higher
than the water came. There were many trees down, one south window and 1 door
broken out, and the roof was gone. Like her great grandpappy and great Great
Great Grandpappy, she bought high ground.
I saw what was left of one casino barge resting inside what had been a 3 story
motel. That was most amazing.

Actually, folks east of NOLA the did the same kind of self help after
Katriba. Places like Bay St. Louis, Pass Christian, and even Gulfport
(where Katrina actually struck) rolled up their sleeves and started digging
out. Apparently, the NOLA strategy was to hope the storm would miss them
(which it did). ignore their own emergency plans, and then cry for outside
help (and blame others) when the levees eventually broke.

Glad you are ok. Was it mostly north of you or were you just high
enough to escape direct damage?
I am so glad this time the Cajun Navy went to work, unlike last time
when the NOLA may sat on his hands and did nothing but complain. This
country (as you know) was made great buy citizens banding together to
do what needs done. That is exactly what the Cajun Navy is. If I'd
been along the gulf coast, I'd have been there to join the navy.

I am in the middle of it. Started raining here late morning and is
raining hard, not much wind. I saw several animal types walking
two-by-two up toward the marina a little while ago.

Who posted a link that shows wind movement: www.windyty.com ?
It's an interesting website. For example, currently it shows (probably
a low speed) "cyclone" on the east coast at the border between Georgia
and South Carolina; which are obviously caused by wind from several
directions.
The website also shows other aspects of moving weather patterns which
are easier to understand than the usual static weather bureau notation.
