Part arrived yesterday and I installed it today.

It seems to be both a filter and a check valve. I suspect more of the
latter.

Anyway haven't driven the car yet. Installation was a big PITA involving
removal of several plastic panels and the front bumper to get
access. These were held in place by plastic push rivets which cracked on
removal, and several screws that had to be drilled out because they were
rusted and seized. So I need to get some replacements for that to put
the nose of the car back together.

Removing the bumper revealed some collision damage. Nothing serious, but
some sheet metal was pushed out of place. I bent it back to basically
where it should have been.

The filter is small so I'm not really expecting this will make a lot of
difference. On the plus side I was finally able to replace the H3 bulb
in the right-hand foglight, which is ridiculously inaccessible for
something that needs routine replacement.
