Well the kid does supposedly have chores such as unloading the
dishwasher, trash, etc but is like pulling teeth to get him to do it
without having to remind him several times.

Start out small. Not only that, but it can provide a sense of accomplishment
and ownership, not to mention help with self-esteem.
Self-entitlement is an ugly thing and near impossible to reverse. You’ll pay a
serious price for it in the long term.
