Got my new KLIMA from Rusty last week--problem solved. Still don't know why the thing went south in such a big way. Here's a lousy pic of the circuit board and my feeble attempts to bridge the burnt traces. Upon further review, it looks like the burnt item on the front side was a resister afterall; not a diode.
