using non-petroleum fuels has never been about price for me, though i
did initially consider doing BioDiesel myself at home. (watch the
confusion on the face of some self-proclaimed patriot next time you ask
them "where was *your* fuel grown?") ;-)
i did, however, being a bit of a motorhead, know that i was ranging
into the frontier, as did most of the people i knew doing BioDiesel at
the time, and understood that there might be risks associated with
trying to use this new'ish fuel.

it's obvious to anyone who sees the oil after an oil change that
BioD breaks down oil faster; knowing that, i didn't plan on extending
the drain intervals even though i knew we weren't dealing with the soot
disposal that the initial recommendation for changing ever 3000 miles
was based on. i'm still waiting to find any substantiative data from
someone other than myself as to what exactly is happening to the
lubrication properties of their engine oil when using B99-100... and i
suspect that if we can see this data for Synthetic oils, it might show
to be less of a concern when using Synthetics.

from what i hear from the guys running Veggie Oil systems (and there
are a lot of them in my area), the biggest issues seem to be with people
who aren't getting the oil hot enough before injection to spray
properly, and/or not driving enough to keep the engine hot enough for
the majority of the time it's running.
word from those in the know still seems to be that WVO/SVO isn't
recommended for people that are doing 'short-hop' driving.

cheers!
