A while ago, there was some discussion on null-modem connections using
Miami. It is my turn to reopen the thread.
I am trying to connect my Amiga via null-modem cable to a Windows 2000
Advanced Server, which I have built, using Miami 3.2. I have also tried
testing it with a Windows NT 4.0 Workstation. To date, I have had no luck
at all in having my Amiga successfully connect using PPP and the null
modem cable while the NT machines are configured for dial-in access.
What I have done so far:
1) Verified that the null-modem cable works by opening a terminal session
between my Amiga and each machine, and even transferring a file using
Zmodem to the NT 4.0 machine.
2) Verified that dial-in access is correctly configured on the Windows
2000 machine by connecting from the NT 4.0 machine using the Null-Modem
cable (there were some issues with having the baud rates set consistently
across all of the settings on the Windows 2000 machine, but I corrected
those).
3) Verified that Miami does work with the Windows 2000 machine by
connecting modem to modem. I used this configuration as a basis for
manually configuring Miami to use a null-modem cable.
If I look at the modem log on the NT machines, I see that data is being
received; however, there are "unrecognized responses" messages after
receipt of the data. What is the standard data that a PPP client sends to
a server to start LCP authentication that I should look for?
In almost all cases, LCP starts, and then I receive the standard error
message back saying that either I have an invalid configuration, or there
is a problem with the server. MiamiInit returns the same error message.
I have checked all of the settings in Miami, and on the Windows machines,
and cannot find anything wrong (baud rates are correctly configured, as
far as I can tell, in Miami and on the other machines). Is there some
software compression that Miami does (besides VJC) that is not being
recognized by the Windows machines?
