Thanks for responding... well, I had a friend who assured me that if Genesis
works, MiamiDX should definitely work. So, armed with a full registered
version of MiamiDX, I installed it (using the installer script)and-- guess
what-- same problem!!!
What happens is that MiamiInit gets to the point of trying to communicate
with the modem and isn't able to. Modem is on the GVP I/O extender's serial
port, unit 0 (same settings---which WORK--- that I specified in the Genesis
setup AND the BBS program, both of which work fine). Like I said in the
previous mail, I tried selecting the modem's actual type, then "Hayes
compatible", then "other" and inputting the init string suggested in the
modem's manual. No luck with any of these!
This is an especially bad situation for me as Vapor is no longer selling or
registering Genesis due to a legal problem with one of its programmers. It
seems I am doomed not to stay on any more than a half hour ever, unless I
purchase a different high-speed serial device which I just don't feel is
worth it. Could it be that Miami simply does not support the version of the
I/O Extender on the G-Force 040? I could try the built-in serial port but it
is slow and puts a starin on the processor, and I think it also feeds power
on one of its pins which I don't know how to disable.
