What error does it give?
Did you spell the driver name correctly, including case?

Miami(Dx) doesn't care what kind of card it is, as long as it behaves
correctly as seen through its driver.
If all else fails, you could set up to access it through serlog (Aminet)
to capture what's happening.

Indeed I've used a number of different modems with normal fully-populated
cables, and have never had trouble.
