Space Planning-
Get your layout down on paper before you break ground. City/historical zoning
limited my size/space, so I spent lots of time sorting out my needs and work
areas prior to working with the architect. My floor is 24x36. The right side is
scissor trusses to get the needed height for the lift. The lift is positioned
so a Miata can go up and down with another Miata parked behind it and the door
shut. Left side is traditional trusses for attic storage.

Power-
Like a hard disk for a computer, buy more than what you think you need. The
cost increase for upping the amps was in the materials, since I already had an
adequate source to pull from in the house.

Lift-
I can't imagine life w/o one now. I picked up a repo'd rotary 11k delivered,
installed and 1 yr. warranty for $2500 from a local installer. It has paid for
itself many times over in hours saved.

Concrete-
Be there when they deliver and lay down your foundation because it sucks when
you go to anchor the lift post and find out the sub is a loser-at-life and
didn't lay down the spec depth in the very spot your lift post was going. ;-)

Shelves-
Like power, you'll want more. Craigslist is a great place to find industrial
shelves. Consumer grade shelves aren't worth buying IMO. I picked up five 10ft
units with 12 shelves @ $20 each. Put four on the wall and turned another into
a work bench. (That's osb on the walls)

Casters-
They are your friend. I've got them on a welding table, fab table and on four
rolling tool cabinets.
