Due to the wonders of the USB standards, with a USB4 host you're likely
to get more consistent results using a thunderbolt adapter, rather than
a USB based one.

USB3.2 Gen 2x2 can do 20gbps and is what you'd need to support RTL8159
at full speed (as well as an OpenBSD driver supporting that chipset, I
did start looking but nothing to show yet). A USB4 host is not mandated
to support 2x2 (and even if they do it's possible only one port on the
device does it).

I have several aq(4) based devices and would suggest those if you want
the best performance:
- Sonnet Solo10G -- massive and heavy, because it's mostly a heatsink
  but works well;
- QNAP QNA-T310G1T -- not recommended as it has a loud fan (note the
  SFP+ version does not have a fan)

But if this isn't for a laptop the other suggestions people have given
for devices with onboard 10Gbe are likely better and will cost less and
have fewer headaches.
