Son,
The tire pressure that was recommended was correct - 45-50 psi is good for
street tires at an autocross. If you weren't smooth and thus plowing like a
farmer, that would explain the chunking. If you rolled an inch onto the
sidewalls, you were going into the turns WAY TO HOT and plowing like mad -
this would have happened regardless of your tire selection. Next time try
more negative camber and slow down - the old adage is "slow down and you'll
go faster"
Yep, that was my biggest problem; I was over-anxious and
most of the time came in too hot and plowed/lifted.
It's been 4 years, I had a lot of "yeehahs" to let loose.
I'm running 1.5 degree neg camber. The car is driven daily,
is that a good compromise?
Driving on a race track is much easier on tires b/c they aren't being used
to the maximum of their cornering ability throughout the duration of each
run. Also, the higher speeds let the tires slide a bit more, thus
transfering more of the wear to the center of the tire than to just the
edge.
BTW, Chunk King is Chinese food <g>

Wasn't it actually Chung King? I was just playing w/ that :-)
Son, the chunk king.
