I dont know if this still holds true for cars today, but I know that on all my
air cooled cars, the model year change over date is July 31/Aug 1.

Our 66 camper was built October 7, 1965 and it's a 66 model year and our 60
Kombi was built November 03, 1959 and it's a 60 model year.

Also, just because a certain car is "registered" as a certain year doesnt mean
that it's correctly registered. We've had a few instances where we've had the
year on a registration changed due to mix ups like this.

Now, I cant explain why Holland has a 92 GTi built in June 91, maybe they
changed the date as to when model year cars switched, but I have learned that
there's VERY few "sure things" when it comes to VW's and just becasue all
information points towards a certain thing (like 87 being the year the 16V was
introduced in the US) doesnt mean there arent legitimate 86 (or apparently 85)
16V's too.

I've also heard on instances where a bus (or a bug) started down the assembly
line and then was removed for whatever reason (crooked outrigger, dash skin
needed to be repositioned)and placed back on the assembly line days or weeks
later. When this happens right around the model year change date, strange
things can happen. a 54 with crotch coolers or a splitty with a loaf model
year.

just a few things to consider. Sorry for all the air cooled lingo.

P.S. we also saw some 9 and 10 second cars at the whitman AZ show back on
Halloween. it's a fun day at the drags.
