Start the drive home and again its overheating within 5-7 mins. Can anyone
explain why?
My money is on there being a crack somewhere which is causing the system to
lose coolant pressure and boil off the coolant.
Places to check: The coolant level sensor which screws into the top of the
reservoir, the black plastic water neck on the driver's side of the
block. These will fool you. Oh, and don't tighten the coolant level
sensor too much, that's what causes it to crack!
You might also replace the rad cap just for good measure. I've also seen
VW's leak from the water pump housing, the little "hole" in it, which
causes them to lose system pressure and is really hard to detect.
Problem with these cars is that it's so hard to tell where coolant leaks
are coming from.
