When looking at VW's some three and a half to four years ago, the first car I drove was a '92 GLI 16V and I thought it was utterly slow. But I refused to give up on the idea of the early 90's VW's so I test drove a '92 GTI 16V (which I ended up buying) and the difference was dramatic. It out accelerated and out handle the GLI (or so I feel, no test were done to prove this). Although, I guess it should have because the GTI had an performance exhaust and a K&N already installed. Overall, I guess I'm comparing apples to oranges.

Hi folks,

Yesterday I went down to a local VW used car shop (or should I say pre-owned) to see a black 91 GTI 16V they had, but it had been sold on Monday. One of the buyers told me they're getting a mint (which also happens to be the color - Mint
Green) '92 GLI next Tuesday. According to the guy, this car is owned by an
older lady, who drives it that way, and they've always serviced it. He said
they've been after this car for a while because it's in excellent shape. My
question is, Is there a noticeable loss in performance due to the extra weight? And, How much heavier is the GLI than the GTI? I prefer the looks the GTI's, but if this car is as clean as they say, I think I'm buying it. I know I'll be test driving it, so I'll know what the performance differences are, if any, but I wanted some opinions from you guys. Really can't wait 'till Tuesday. Sorry
for the length of this, but it's kinda slow today anyway.
