Although, I guess it should have because the GTI had an performance
exhaust and a K&N already installed. Overall, I guess I'm comparing
apples to oranges.
A friend told me about a story in some performance car magazine where they
took two equivalent new cars and on one put performance springs and shocks,
big sway bars, etc., and on the other they put a Momo steering wheel and a
pair of Recaro seats. They then had several "lay" people drive them and
queried as to which handled better. By a landslide, people thought the car
with the steering wheel and the seats handled better.
The moral of the story: The loud exhaust and intake probably make you
think the car is faster.
I believe it, I enjoy my car more because it's loud. Hey, nothing wrong
with that. Don't confuse it with real performance. Easy to make a GLI loud.
