Good ride, quiet, and good grip. Dunlops, in my experience, have great stick, but wear quickly. I rode on a set of Pirelli P700Z over the weekend and, too, was not impressed. I didn't get an overwhelming feeling of security when pushing my GLi into the twisties. The feeling just wasn't there. Not to beat them to death, but Nittos seem to have the good qualities of the Yokos, better wear than Dunlops, and don't suck like Pirellis. But in the end, tires are like porn stars...everyone's got their favorite and will argue forever on why theirs is the best. You've just gotta test 'em out until you find one you like (wish that applied to porn stars, too). I even have them on my work truck. The (now discontinued) AVS Intermediate was the best bang-for-the-buck tire I have ever driven on. I liked them quite a bit more than the Kumho 712s I replaced them with(on my old '91 Jetta). When it comes time for me to go back to my summer wheels (on the '88), I'll be ordering a set of AVS ES100s to replace the near-bald set of AVS Intermediates on there now. Every set of Pirellis I've had has given me less-than-expected performance for the price. Yokohama AVS Intermediate: Excellent grip(both wet and dry), low noise, even at the limit, plus an excellent price and a tread life that far exceeds it's rating(go easy on the burnouts). I would expect no less from the AVS ES100s. Kumho 712: Good tire for the money, but not on par with the Yokohamas. Didn't feel as stable when pushed, and was a bit noisy at the limit. Pirelli P700Z: Overpriced for it's return in performance. Save yourself the money and look elsewhere. I believe they have been discontinued anyway. You may also want to look at Dunlop and Bridgestone. Not necessarily better or worse, but other options. -Dave '88 Jetta GLI 16V '81 Scirocco S '91 Ford F150 _______________________________________________ a2-16v-list mailing list [email protected] http://mail.a2-16v.com/mailman/listinfo/a2-16v-list For list archives, see listinfo link above.
