im all for labels putting a few tracks up for download, but im not all for
FTP sites where people just put up record after record of readily
available indie material for people who want to collect records on their
harddrives. i can see it now: "look at my music collection!" as some kid
holds up his 64 gig hard drive.

way too many bands.....one that sticks out would have to be guided by
voices. i saw them this spring and they played for like two hours...after
the first 45 minutes i couldnt differentiate between songs anymore. they
all kinda ran together and sounded EXACTLY the same. ok, how many people
want to kill me now?

well, if you put the pictures together with a vote for the hottest one its
basically opening the door to a bunch of desperate guys emailing you,
inviting you to shows, and making mix tapes for you. it is nice to put a
name with the face though...

unless theyre going to be cool and not expect massive sales (a la, elliott
smith and MM) i cant imagine this being a good idea. the only underground
band to realy "make it" since green day was blink 182 i guess. most others
meet a fast demise (jawbox and jawbreaker quickly come to mind). its just
gets to the point where bands have been fronted so much money for videos
and recordings that they need to have a hit single to actually make some
money. is that really feasible for the average indie band?
