John:

Try the following:

        $ perl Makefile.PL \
          USE_APXS=1 \
          EVERYTHING=1 \
          WITH_APXS=/usr/local/apache/bin/apxs

        $ make
        $ make test
        $ make install

This will build mod_perl as a DSO outside of the Apache source
tree using the Apache APXS option - <Apache eXtenSion (APXS)
support tool>.

Let us know.

RB

Hi RB,
  Here is the configuration I tried:
    perl Makefile.PL \
    APACHE_PREFIX=/usr/local/apache \
    APACHE_SRC=/home/ssl/apache_1.3.22 \
    USE_APXS=1 \
    WITH_APXS=/usr/local/apache/bin/apxs \
    DO_HTTPD=1 \
    USE_APACI=1 \
    EVERYTHING=1
Both w/ and w/o the APACHE_PRFIX and APACHE_SRC lines.
The errors are attached. Please advise. Thanks.
