This is the normal behavior when to apps have an identical creator code. 
Usually two apps having the same creator code implies that one of the 
apps is intended as a replacement for the other.

Sadly, people will still need to keep Nav 4.x around.

Workaround (applies to any two apps with the same creator code):
* The icon mixup is not dangerous "corruption". It is just a visual 
glitch.
* Instead of double clicking files to open, use drag the file icon onto 
the icon of the app in which you wish to open the file. This way there 
is no ambiguity wrt. the app that is going to be launched.

This issue was discussed in n.p.m.mac before Netscape 6 was released.
