Heikki, can you point to any user survey that shows that the typical user has no fear of money being stolen from their online bank account?
I spent hours and hours and hours trying to convince my parents to use internet banking as it has real benefits over telephone banking (which they were using happily).
The thing is telephone lines and internet connections are similarly vulnerable, it's possible to snoop on internet traffic and possible to snoop on phone calls, phone calls usually don't have the added luxury of encryption.
In the end they decided to try it and now they enter the website address of their bank each time (they don't use bookmarks or click on links in emails) to make sure they connect to the right site each time. So something like petnames tool bar would be beneficial to them (and everyone else in their situation for that matter) and they do use firefox and if it came part of the browser I'd insist that they use it, however I don't have the time to tell them about each and every "neat" plug-in likely to make their lives more secure and easier either, how to download and install it.
So I'd say my parents care very much that they are connecting to the right site and go to some lengths to make sure of it, they haven't actually lost anything at this point in time but are being pro-active in making sure they don't as well.
Also worth noting is the fact they use a minor credit union most of the time that wouldn't be deemed worth while by phishing attacks to include them.
So my conclusion is there is a lot of people out there paranoid due to scare mongering and once they get over the initial concerns treat this in a good way, and if there were tools to make things a little easier this would perhaps give more people greater confidence in the whole e-commerce/online banking systems.
