www.totalrecorder.com

A tool for win9x/NT4/2000, that allows you to save to a file the
sound output of programs. ( waveOut and partly also DirectSound )

It install a new sound driver into the system that communicates
with the totalrecorder app, that saves the data to a file.
It can also send a copy of the data to the real driver so you
can hear the sound. It also does this when the totrec app is
not active, so you don't need to switch the drivers for normal work.

The only downside is that it doesn't allow stuffing data from files
into applications that record live audio. But that can be done
with Virtual Audio Cable from www.ntonyx.com
