Yes, I do think of this from time to time - especially the run from CD
versions as my laptop disc is close to full.

But I don't want yet more domain knowledge that I have to get my
ageing brain to assimilate.

Its hard enough keeping up with Windows and I don't want to end up
having to cope with both environments.

My main puzzle right now is where to go for my next machine sometime
later this year.

For several years now AMD has blown Intel 'out of the water' in GMP/
MPIR territory.

My instinct says 'stay with AMD' but is the Intel i7 architecture
going to change this?
