What you must realize is that most unions represent the Blue Collar workers
of the US. Not your average VP or AVP with an educational and professional
background. BUT if something isn't done both by the workers and the
administration about this I'm afraid all our technical knowledge and IT
resources will be come non-existent and we will be giving toooo much power
to non-American interests.

Hello Bobbee,

Sorry for continuing on the off-topic..

There is something common and unfortunate in all unions I heard about from
my buddies and relatives who happened to join them: after a little while a
union is going to take advantage of its hard working members much more
efficiently than the employer.

So, unless you are going to leave the technical side and join the dark one
(meaning -- union administration), a union may not be a beneficial idea for
you. For some intermediate form, though, take a look at
http://www.freelancersunion.org/. I am not saying they are not like all
others unions (and I am not a member myself, I am permanent as of now), but
at least they do not have (and supposedly won't have any soon) an exlusive
with any employer/trade of type "union job".

Pavel
