A friend of mine just acquired an H3 unit "Model 86019 Rev H3 Lot 3806".
We were experiencing the same problem as the original poster. The
unit would always enter the "Failed to locate GUI" and "Contacting
Servers" loop. Tracing on the TFTP server would show that the
dongle.bin.ver file was indeed getting requested. However, the
dongle.bin never was.

Eventually I resorted to trying the Hauppauge windows software. After
placing just my dongle.bin (original 0.3.1 release) in its folder, the
unit did download it and start mvpmc.

After some more pondering an investigation, I decided to replace the
dongle.bin.ver file on my server with the Hauppauge version. This was
the change that resulted in being able to successfully start the H3 unit
with mvpmc.

I'm not sure if the H3 units are simply more finicky about the content
of the dongle.bin.ver or simply have a new enough software load that the
content of my original dongle.bin.ver was deemed older.

Hope this helps someone.
