Frank,
If you replace your Hauppauge dongle with the mvpmc dongle on your windows Hauppauge server and you still boot the Hauppauge dongle, this means that the dongle.bin.ver file tells the MVP that there is no need to download a dongle and it will boot the internal flash version of the Hauppauge dongle. You need to change the dongle.bin.ver file to trigger a dongle download. That is, dongle.bin.ver must refer to a dongle version newer than the one built into the MVP's flash. I think the wiki has instructions on how to do that. Once you get the mvpmc dongle to download from your windows box, the next step will be to determine how to get it to load from Linux.
Cheers...
Sergio

Sergio,
"Failed to contacg GUI server is symptomatic of mvprelay not being reachable from the MVP. When you're testing, make sure you disable your Windows based Haupauge SW or just unplug the Windows box from the network. Secondly, check that you're not running firewall SW on your linux box such as IPchains or IPtables that is blocking access to the required ports on the Linux box. Finally, your tftpd should be able to log activities so you can tell if its receiving a request to pull down the dongle.
I have not setup any firewall on the Linux box. Basically I followed the instructions on wilsonet.com (http://wilsonet.com/mythtv/printer-friendly.php?SID&expandables=closed&ivtv=closed&pvr350out=closed) to build the MythTV box. In those instructions it advises not to enable any firewall software.
Yes I do have logging enabled, and just confirmed that the log updates with a tftp request to port 16869. Just a note, I have never seen a tftp log entry anytime I have booted up the MVP, no matter what combination I used.
One question, if you use your Hauppauge server and replace the Hauppauge dongle with the mvpmc dongle can you boot it or at least telnet to the MVP once it appears to have downloaded it?
Hauppauge will come up fine and work as expected even if I replace the dongle.bin with the mvpmc one. As far as telnet is concerned, I cannot telnet into the MVP on port 23.
Thanks,
Frank
