I am assuming you are talking about mclient...

The underlying (Ethernet) way that mclient uses is the old way Slim 
Devices (aka Squeeze Box / Squeeze Center / Logitec) communicate.  In 
order for mclient to emulate a newer device you would 1st have to 
replace the protocol it uses.  Then you could start working on the 
client software.

Any takers?  I know there has been interest in the past.  All the code 
is available on the GIT servers.
