At one time, I was mildly interested in re-engineering mclient because for
whatever reason the SLIMP3 emulation just didn't work well with Logitech Server
versions 7.5+.

  Then I discovered
http://mightyohm.com/blog/2008/10/building-a-wifi-radio-part-1-introduction/
and started playing around with OpenWrt.  I'm now running 3 cheepo hacked ASUS
routers as poor man Squeezeboxes, in various states of polish.  My MediaMVP
sits on the shelf, unpowered. :(

I'd be more interested in additional MVPMC hackery if I thought there was a
way to get around the wireless limitations (i.e. 128bit WEP).  I actually had
to host a second parallel WLAN just to use my MVP.  At least with the OpenWrt
platform, I have more driver options and control visibility.

Also, I highly recommend the Squeezeslave project as a general, very
efficient Squeezebox client.  I'm running it on nearly all my Linux boxen,
including one of the 3 forementioned ASUS routers.  Wonderful piece of software.
