Does the 4.1.2 manual also not speak of: "defaults-extra-file  The file
specified with --defaults-extra-file=#"? My bet, though, as elsewhere
suggested, is on a script, like mysqld_safe, running mysqld with,

    --socket=/var/lib/mysql/mysql

Grep is your friend. :)
