What everyone else said ( you can't take everything that every client says
personally ) plus:

I kept a "cheat sheet" , laminated, with me for each service with each step
listed in the correct order. Before I went on to the next step, I checked my
"cheat sheet" to be sure that I did not miss any steps. I would get to chatting
up the client and forget steps! Very bad! Do not worry about looking stupid
with the "cheat sheet" , put it in a discreet place where you can see it but
the client can't. Like taped to the edge of your table or pedicure cart. It is
better to have the check list and not miss any steps than to mess up and have
an unhappy client.

The "cheat sheet" is also helpful to get your speed up. Group the steps into 4
- 15 minute groupings And work on completing the steps in the allotted time to
finish the service in one hour. You will also see where you need to improve. If
it takes you more than 15 minutes to file and shape the nails, you need to
spend more time applying the product to require less filing. The owner should
be able to help you to group the steps into 15 minute sets.

Showing initiative in improving your technique and speed will let the owner see
the effort that you are putting into you art and make him/her more patient.

I think you are being too hard on yourself. Not one of us hasn’t made a
similar mistake, and after only 3 months, seriously it is not a long time. I
know I am certainly not perfect.

Has your boss actually said anything to you? Or are you just being hard on
yourself? If your boss taught you the procedures, maybe she just needs to go
over it with you again.

One thing is for sure in this business though….you really need to grow a thick
skin. Things like this are going to happen, especially when you’re new. It’s
how you handle it that determines your success.

Like I said, hang in there, but ask your boss for help if you need it !

Hi Bonnie, welcome! Sherri made some valid points – tell us what exactly your
boss is disappointed in and I’m sure someone here can help.

Also….3 months is not a long time, I’m pretty sure I felt the same way you do
now after 3 months.

Hang in there!

What exactly is he/she disappointed in? Your skill? Your speed? Client
retention? Retail sales? Are you an employee or booth renter? Does the boss do
nails or hair? What had your boss done to help you address specific issues? Are
you the only nail tech? Is there someone in your area willing to mentor you?
Are you in an area where education is available?
Its hard to offer help or advice with the limited information you provided.
Can your give us more to work with?
Sherri
