filtersets in Ant predate filterchains, that's why we haven't removed
them (backwards compatibility). It should be straight forward to
write a filterchain implementation that does the same things filterset
does.

filterset or filterchain?

Filterchains haven't changed much after they've been added in 1.5.
The heavily rely on java.io.FilterReader so I'm not sure how easy the
implementation could be ported to the NAnt universum.

In Ant 1.6 <typedef> has become a lot more powerful. You can now
typedef anything and we provide adapters for certain interfaces. So
in the end, <taskdef> is just a special case of <typedef> with the
adapter class being set to TaskAdapter.

On top of that we've added new introspection rules to the algorithm
that discovers nested elements. If a class has a method

public void add(InterfaceType)

it can accept as nested elements all named types that implement that
interface or can be adapted to it. This is accompanied by some
syntactic sugar but this is the basic thing that enables the easy
usage of custom filters in 1.6.

More on that in a different thread. 8-)
