I own 4 mackies, a cfx12, cfx16, cfx20 and tt24 digital console. They are great workhorses for live, a production truck or remote recording. I would sell all of them but the tt24 just to get the initial purchase cost of a yamaha mg series and I would gladly do the same and throw in cash to get a clean Sony mx series small format console. Both of these series of consoles have better pres, eq's and routing than the mackies. They are a bit more pricey and can be more finicky but for a stable, studio install I have a hard time justifying sticking a mackie in the corner when I have so many better options.
Having said that the mackies travel well and fill a lot of voids for live sound reinforcement better than the consoles I mentioned do... I Believe the original question was geared towards a studio sidecar...thus I will stick with my initial answer.
