Interesting that this thread would come about at this time...After much deliberation, I decided awhile ago to use my Mackie 1402 (which I have had for over 12 years) to route in some extra tracks from my MCI JH24, to my 16 channel Neotek Series 1. Even though I'll be using a few outboard pre's to help with this, I know the Mackie will work for "non-essential" tracks...or tracks that are not majorly critical. (ie vox, drums, etc.) I looked at buying a sidecar or building one out of Neotek channels and several other ideas. But due to cost and time I realized I might as well use what I already have. They are very competently designed, neutral boards. Not end all and be all, but entirely useable. I don't care for the EQ much, it's far to narrow, probably set for the average rock and roller dealing with cheap mics and speakers who needs to "dial out" nasties, rather than somebody needing to just "shape", but they can be set neutrally. Plenty quiet for auxilliary functions. Extraordinarily cheap for that use, why not?
