I presume from your description that the camera is designed to go on the
parallel port -- I would just attach the camera according to the
manufacturers directions to the parallel port -- generally parallel port
cameras work better if on a parallel port configured at one of the high
speed settings ( this is likely done in the bios settings of your
computer ) -- if setting the port to a high speed option doesn't cause any
other problems I would suggest using it that way.

If you already have a printer attached to the parallel port, the camera
attachment has no pass through capability and you  want to continue to use
it the printer with no manipulations-- addition of a second parallel port is
usually possible through a relatively inexpensive add in card.
