I had same problem twice
First time I brought up win95 Speaker icon and found my mike was turned off
in win95 check and see if it is on. Even when it is off the NM audio seems
to indicate mike is hot when it is not.
The second time it happened nothing worked so I "re-installed" and that cure
the problem
