Hello everyone:

I was a litle busy and didn't have time to read the messages on th list (or
post some). But now I'm back at the Linux stuff. I've installed Venus and there
then problems startted....... I was a bit dissapointed about Mandrake
6, in my opinion it's got a lot of bugs: unmount problems at shutdown, boot
errors, TT fonts didn't work, and i got two system lockups (i was impressed!!!
first time my pc lcoks running linux).
I reinstalled Venus several times, and problems persisted..... And that update
tool caused KDE to stop responding! And also some opther KDE programs did
the same....If I wanted my computer to stop responding i'll stay with M$
products :). After I manually downloaded and updated my system with fresh rpms
from Mandrake some flaws dissapeared. No more boot or unmount problems. Kde
also worked properly.
I also got my TT fonts to work. If I configure my X server with XF86Setup I can
say goodbye to TT fonts and color to the Netscape and WP8 toolbars. This
doesn't happen when using Xconfigurator. Can anyone tell me why?
When using Kppp i got no problems connecting to the internet...... but after i
do that I can't start any other program!!!!! damn! So I used Linuxconf to start
the ppp conection. And guess what..... I click on terminate connection but
nothing happens, and I have tu pull of the line cable from the modem to get
disconnected (aggrr!!) Even after kdenetwork package update Kppp restricts me
from opening any other program. Any ideas?
The claimed HD optimizations doesn't seem to work. At least I dont see 'em. So
I run hdparm -c1 /dev/hda to get better performance. Hmm, how can I run this
command automatically every time linux starts? I also run hdparm -k1 /dev/hda
but after reboot the IO transfer is set back to 16 bits. Why? (Also tried
hdparm -K1 /dev/hda)
That's it for now....... I hope someone help me solve these peroblems, after
all I love Linux, and Mandrake too, and would like to have it runnign properly.
Festen was stable and trouble free. Venus is a little buggy, sort of windoze98
style (but, of course, the M$ "OS" is a real piece of crap). I would like a
rock solid distribution for the next Mandrake release, as Festen was. Anyway,
Venus with all it bugs is better than RH6.
