That's right - you start as if to install. As long as you don't actually tell it to shrink the partition or whatever you will be able to abort and nothing will have changed. What happens if you do tell it to carry on is that it warns you that it is going to write the new partition table. Allowing that is when you are committed, with no way back. Take a look, go into expert mode when it gets to partitioning, take a good look, then exit. Give yourself time to think about what you have seen. If you have any questions come back before going in to do the real install. I promise you that you are safe if you exit from expert mode when you have just looked at the partitioning.
